The Crown of Volyn’ and Western Podillya

Pochaiv-Kremenets-Vushnevets-Zbarazh

This is a very interesting one-day tour, which is also called “The Golden Ring of Ternopil region” and is easily combined with another popular tour around medieval castles and fortresses of Lviv region – ”The Golden Horseshoe”.

The way lies through Pochaiv with its famous object of worship – the print of the foot of Virgin Mary and Pochaiv Lavra, one of the largest Orthodox Monasteries of the world, built on this place. A lot of miracles still take place here.

Next place to visit is the town of Kremenets, which is the motherland of Juliush Slovatsky, famous Polish writer. This town is rich in history and cultural monuments and possesses the unique landscapes. The town can boast of its title - “Pearl in the Crown of Podillya”. Besides significant architectural heritage there are three ancient necropolises - Cossack, Polish and Jewish one. Next our way leads to the town of Vyshnivets with its romantic palace which is also called “the little versailles”. This town became famous for its historical monuments, rich history in events and names of prominent people. The residences of prince Vyshnevetsky and count Mnishek served a place of meeting of European monarchs. The historical museum was opened in this palace.

In Zbarazh we visit one of the most powerful fortresses in Podillya. In June 30, 1649, one of the most famous battles of Cossacks under the guidance of Bohdan Khmelnytsky against Polish troops took place. Nowadays in the renaissance castle palace and casemates one can visit the exposition halls with ancient icons, sculpture and arms. On our way to Lviv we have a stop in the town of Zboriv. Here, under the huge mound, the remnants of the Cossacks who perished in the battle against troops of Polish King Ian Kazimerz were buried. Also the museum “The Battle in Zboriv” was opened in the town.

The duration of the excursion depends on your desire (12-13 hours).
